'Daniels sisters record top overseas result'
By Craig Page
'The Daniels sisters, Lisa and Nina, have produced one of their best
performances on the international stage, winning two bronze medals
at the China Open Synchronised Swimming Championships at the
weekend.
The Dunedin pair finished third in both the technical duet and free
duet, but more importantly recorded their best scores at an
international competition.
In the technical routine they scored 87.334, while the free produced a
score of 88.883. The scores were a significant five point improvement
on those they produced at the World Championships in Melbourne
earlier this year.
The results also bode well for the pair's chance in becoming the first
duet to represent New Zealand at an Olympics.
Lisa and Nina have already gained qualification for next year's Beijing
Olympics by winning the Oceania berth at the Swiss Open in July.
However, the final decision on selection rests with the New Zealand
Olympic Committee.
The sisters return to New Zealand later this week and will compete at
the New Zealand Synchronised Swimming Championships in Auckland
this weekend.
For the past three years Lisa and Nina have been based predominantly
at the Canadian Synchronised Swimming International Centre of
Excellence in Toronto.'
